We sat down with owner Glen Egeland to get his best advice on preparing for the upcoming season.
CCE: How do you like to work with clients? Do you suggest creative arrangements, or do you wait for them to give you ideas?
GE: We let the client tell us their “vision” of the flowers, then we make suggestions to fine- tune it if needed. Certain flowers they have in mind may not be available or can cost a lot more due to limited crops, therefore, we will suggest alternatives.
CCE: Which flowers stay alive longer with our cold seasons?
GE: Most flowers available in the colder season will “hold up.” The flowers to stay away from are the bulb stock; tulips, anemones, daffodils, etc. Their stem structure causes them to react faster to colder temps and turn transparent.
CCE: Do you come out to the client’s homes to suggest floral arrangements?
GE: Yes, we meet with clients at their homes for two reasons. First, they are more relaxed. Second, we can see the space we are going to be working with to see colors and gauge size.
CCE: Will you deliver flowers on holidays?
GE: Yes, we will deliver on holidays if necessary.
CCE: Is there a specific holiday or event that stand out in your mind as a favorite to decorate for?
GE: Our favorite holiday to design for has always been the Christmas season. My earliest memories from when I was a little kid in the flower business was decorating at the holidays.
