Save the Date

You’ve just got engaged and started your planning.  What’s the first thing you do?  Choose the date, of course!  If you decide to, you may inform your guests of your special day with a Save the Date card.

savethedateSave the Dates have become increasingly more popular.  Typically, you will mail out the cards 6-9 months prior to your wedding.  If it is a destination or out of the country wedding, allow more time and send them out 10-12 months prior.  It can be as simple as a photo card or postcard, to a more elaborate card such as a magnet or sticker.  If you have a sweet tooth, you can even send off a tasty edible treat.  Hopefully the guest writes down the information before devouring it!

You may choose to be silly and fun or formal and elegant.  Generally, the cards should simply have your name, date and location.  Short and sweet!

Here are some quick ideas for a unique Save the Date card:

  • Photo Strip—compile a strip of four photos with information in each photo
  • Puzzle—choose a fun portrait from your engagement photo session and make it into a puzzle
  • Calendar—use the calendar month and put a heart around the date
  • Magnet—create a Polaroid looking photo that is magnetic
  • Luggage Tag—create a unique tag if the location will require travel
