Choosing a Photographer

Part of enjoying your own event is the joy of relaxing, and visiting with your guests.  Don’t you agree?  That’s where you allow professionals to take care of everything for you so you don’t have to worry about a thing!  The day goes by quicker than a blink of an eye, so it’s crucial to capture those moments to reminisce on the memories forever.  Hiring a photographer may be overwhelming because there are so many to choose from, but with the following tips, you’ll find that it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

  1. Decide on a style of photography that you prefer.  Are you looking for traditional, posed photos?  Or a more loose, candid style where you sometimes don’t even know the photographer is taking photos?  A photographer’s style is important to examine to ensure it fits your vision and expectations.
  2. Determine the budget and services you would like.  Often times a photographer will provide you with options so you can choose which package is best for your event.  Decide the price, hours and the quantity of photographs you would like.  Also, what do you plan on doing with the photos?  Do you want prints or an album?  A CD of all the photos with rights to reproduce so you own all of the photos?
  3. Research the photographer.  Spend a little time researching and viewing online portfolios on the photographer’s website.  Also, ask around and get recommendations from event planners, friends and family to see what local photographers are in your area.  Once you’ve found a photographer, give them a call or set up a meeting to learn more.  Most importantly, find out if they are available for your date, sign the contract, and sit back and enjoy your event!
