The mission was established years ago, but it wasn’t until I had that aha moment years later did the vision of Little Dreamer become a reality. When my youngest daughter Ava was 8 years old, she came home from school one day concerned about one of her classmates. Her friend was sad on her birthday, because she wasn’t celebrated by her family in the way we tend to celebrate birthdays in our home. This young girl’s family didn’t acknowledge the American culture that surrounded her at school, and she felt left out. Ava wanted to treat her special, so we decided to take to her to brunch, placed a candle in her pancakes and ended with a traditional birthday song. Recently, this young girl, whom I hadn’t seen since that day, approached me at a high school basketball game to tell me what an impact that gesture had on her growing up. Realizing the importance of this celebration, Ava and I have decided to give back to more deserving children in our community.
Founded in 2017, Little Dreamer Corporation will provide an annual birthday party to a child in need who demonstrates their commitment to education and home life. A short essay submission will be reviewed by our committee and junior board members, consisting of business professionals and high school students, and the winner will receive a birthday party of his or her dreams. Little Dreamer appreciates donations from local partners and encourages volunteers from the community. Rules and regulations will apply.
